The Fall 2020 Semester TV Journalism Class:
Normandie Berl
News Producer Normandie Berl is in her first semester, producing UT:10 News. She is a junior, Media Communication and Marketing student. Her career focus is sports broadcasting and sideline reporting. She is involved in Kappa Delta, Pi Sigma Epsilon, Bridge, and serves as a MMJ for UT:10 News. In her free time, Normandie loves playing semi-professional beach volleyball. Normandie is graduating in May 2022. Kait Pence
News Producer Kait Pence is in her first semester, producing UT:10 News. She is a senior Media Communication major looking forward to May. She hopes to get a job at a news station after graduation. Her goal is to eventually become a Professor of Media Communication. Outside of UT:10, Kait works as a video assistant for the football team and a production technician for ESPN 3. Jake Plagens
Director/Graphics Supervisor Jake Plagens is a Senior from North Royalton, OH. He is majoring in Media Communication and is in his first semester as UT:10’s Director. Jake has enjoyed sports since he was a kid and decided to turn his passion into a career. He has been on the Production Crew for ESPN for Toledo Rockets Athletics since August 2017, as well as the Akron RubberDucks (Double-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) since March 2019. He also does Broadcasting and has been on the call for many Toledo Rockets Athletics events on ESPN and WXUT Toledo 88.3 FM, where he also has his own weekly talk show. He also joined Zeta Phi Eta in the Fall of 2019. Jake is hoping to become a Professional Production Worker or Broadcaster after he graduates next May. Deepa Bhujbal
Student Reporter Deepa Bhujbal is a sophomore majoring in Media Communications. She has her roots from the wine city of Nashik, in the Indian Subcontinent. This is her first semester serving as a reporter for UT:10 News. She is also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. She is the Vice President of the Table Tennis Club and has represented UT at nationals. Deepa aspires to have a career in broadcast journalism. As a videographer, she wishes to deliver content that everyone can relate with. She is an otaku and absolutely loves watching Anime and reading Japanese comics. Kennedy Ellison
Student Reporter Kennedy Ellison is a senior, graduating May 2021. Her major is Media Communication and minors in Criminal Justice. When she graduates, she hopes to work in television news as a reporter, in the future she would like to work with the Innocence Project. Ellison is from Detroit, MI and graduated from Cass Tech. Gabrielle Huff
Student Reporter Gabrielle Huff is a senior at the University of Toledo majoring in Media Communication and Political Science. She has grown up in Toledo, Ohio and will be graduating this December. She has written and edited for the UToledo Collegian since 2017, and also writes for two local magazines, Village Life and Home and Stone Oak Living. Gabrielle is also a member of Zeta Phi Eta and has interned for the University of Toledo’s Jesup Scott Honors College. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in journalism. Student Reporter Emma is a senior from Gibsonburg, Ohio majoring in media communications with a marketing minor. Her concentration is in sports broadcasting and production. When she’s not reporting for UT:10, Emma is volunteering on the production crew at Cedar Creek or spending time at a local coffee shop. Cheyenne Kastura is a Senior University of Toledo Media Communication student from Monroe, Michigan, who is graduating this up coming December. With a passion of music, entertainment, and the way to radio stations work, she hopes to pursue a carrer in radio after she graduates, but is open to the media world around her. Gaining the experience with camera equipment, editing video and audio controls, photography, writing through college, and filming for projects for the Imagination Station, she intends on having an open mind when searching for jobs to see what she'll enjoy the most. Alyssa Plotts is a Senior from Erie, MI majoring in Media Communication with a minor in Political Science. This is her first semester as UT:10's Social Media Producer. Alyssa currently works for BCSN (Buckeye Community Sports Network) as a Production Crew Member. She is a camera operator for stream events and high school athletics, such as football and volleyball. She also works on the television sports show Sports Nightly on BCSN running the audio board and as a floor director. Alyssa has also interned with 13 ABC in Toledo, OH. Yash Shingan is a sophomore Media Communications student and an international student from India. He is the Executive of Marketing and Public Relations for the International Students Association and the Sexuality and Gender Alliance. He serves as a student ambassador for the Jesup Scott Honors College. Yash is also a part of the Rocket Dhamaka Bollywood fusion dance team and Free Pizza Improv Club. He is graduating in May 2023.
